Shanghai
Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl
Shanghai, which means “at the top of the sea” has a very long history that dates back to the year 770 BC, and that has taken the city and transformed it into what is is now, the city that represents Chinese progress and opening to the world.
Known before as the the Paris of Orient, the city today counts with some 17–20 million potential 'kilikis'.
Development frozen for four decades, from the 90’s onwards Shanghai has gotten back strength and follows quickly the steps of Honk Kong as Asia’s economic colossus. This can be seen in the huge renovation that the city has been subject to and continues to experiment today. Nowadays, when westerners speak of the rise of Chinese economic growth, a great deal of the merit is due to Shanghai.
