El Kiliki Mandarin, the 'peña'

The 'peñas'

The 'peñas' are associations or clubs which are founded by very active sanfermin celebrators. They gather together with the purpose of making the celebration of the festival easier for its members and more fun for everybody else.

Many of them have bars, and all of them go to the daily bull fights and they carouse the streets day and night for seven days spreading the contagious San Fermin celebration spirit.

During the year 2005, finding themselves living in Shanghai, a small group of friends from Navarre suddenly realized that their favorite festival was drawing near and that they would be able to take part in it.

Not willing to let something as trifle as a mere 10,000 kilometers keep them from enjoying their San Fermin, they got together to found our own “peña”: “El Kiliki Mandarin”. El Kiliki Mandarin was born due to the work and hopes of 10 people who living in Shanghai wanted to bring from such a long way away, something they all carried in their hearts, and nothing more representative of their native Navarre than the celebration of San Fermin.
